Fishing Frog DIY Transformation

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

I’m all about transforming things!   Here is another painting project I did to give this little guy a fresh look!  This frog has had his days in the sun and it shows.   The poor thing is so faded and really needed to be updated.  I always get excited when I can get my hands on projects like this.  It is easy and inexpensive to do.

The paint I like to use is the Indoor/Outdoor “Apple Barrel” brand.  It holds up well and has vibrant colors.  I purchase at my local Walmart in the craft section.

Here he is!  I am so thrilled how he turned out!   I usually have to give it at least 3-4 coats of paint.  It just depends on the material.   The smooth parts took more coats because the paint doesn’t have anything to grab onto.  I had to paint these parts in thin layers.   The parts that were more rough took less coats.  The paint can grab better for some reason.  I don’t always know why but I’m ok with that.  As long as I can figure out the technique, it good enough for me.  I’m not a person who always cares how things work, I just care if it works.  Haha!!

I use “Mod Podge” brand for the clear coat.  It comes in 2 different ways.  You can get a gloss finish or a matte finish.  I prefer gloss.   I like things shiny!    I purchase at my local Walmart.    I wait 24-48 hours before applying this onto the paint.  I want to give the paint enough time to dry really well first.

I gave it 2 coats.   Hopefully this protects the paint from the sun.
